FOXBORO — If defense wins championships, then Blackstone Valley Tech had everything going for them yesterday at Gillette Stadium. After losing in the same contest a season ago, Blackstone Valley played with that loss on their minds and beat St. Mary’s of Lynn 18-0 to win the Division 7 Super Bowl. It was it’s first title since 2012. “Best feeling in the world,” said Beavers coach Jim Archibald about coming back to this stage and coming out on top. “These kids are just unbelievable. This is something no one can ever take away from them. They’ve done this all year long. … It’s been such a pleasure to be around them. They play the game the right way. They play hard and they play physical. This is a cumulation of the last two years.” Blackstone Valley (11-1) got on the board first, capitalizing on a short punt as junior JD Antaya finished the quick drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. The junior ran seven times for 69 yards and a score on the day while grabbing one pass for 15 yards. Antaya also came up with an interception late in the second quarter and had a tackle for loss on the defensive side of the ball in the first half. St. Mary’s (8-5) totaled just 27 yards in the first half while only getting one first down. “Sometimes it’s hard for me to play a running corner,” Antaya said about his defensive efforts. “I kind of enjoyed it today knowing it was the last game. I wanted to put it all out on the field just like everyone else on the team. We were all trying to put it all out on the field today.” The Spartans finished with just 75 yards on the day and totaled six first downs with five punts. Their lone scoring threat came in the fourth quarter as the Spartans turned the ball over on downs after going 67 yards on 17 plays. The Beavers got the ball back with 6:45 to go and ran out the clock. In the first half, Antaya’s 47-yard run late in the second quarter setup a bootleg 1-yard score for senior QB Scott Mackay to make it 12-0 at the half. Mackay finished with 16 rushes for 96 yards and two scores as he scored on another one-yard run up the gut to make it 18-0 with 4:07 left in the third. He also finished 4-of-8 for 66 yards through the air.
