Frank ‘Paco’ Casal, at age 92, of East Weymouth, biz owner
Frank “Paco” Casal of East Weymouth, formerly of Boston’s North End, died Monday. He was 92.
He was born, raised and educated in the North End.
He was a member of the 1939 undefeated North End baseball team The Tomahawks and played his championship game at Fenway Park.
He attended Michelangelo School, English High School and then Boston University.
Mr. Casal was drafted to the Marines during WWII and served aboard the USS Shangri-La in the Asia Pacific.
He was one of the first Marines to set foot in Yokosuka, Japan, after the atomic bombs were dropped.
Mr. Casal received two campaign medals, a bronze star, the WWII Victory Medal and the combat action ribbon for his bravery and courage.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from BU and worked for Budget Insurance Plan Inc. in Boston for most of his career.
He later bought and presided over the business until retirement.
Mr. Casal moved to East Weymouth in 1962.
He loved attending his children’s various sports and music performances.
He loved dogs, solving challenging Sudoku and Calcudoku puzzels, was a lifetime Boston sports fan and an avid swimmer.
He swam at the Weymouth Club, was a dedicated exercise enthusiast and summered at Popponesset on Cape Cod for many years.
Husband of the late Ida R. “Edie” for 61 years Mr. Casal is survived by two sons, Frank E. of Duxbury and Robert of Weymouth; three daughters, Karen Spitz of Larchmont, N.Y., Eileen of Wellesley and Maureen Ahl of Marshfield; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth.
Burial will be private.
