Top-ranked Vols make it 19 straight wins

Admiral Schofield had 21 points and 10 rebounds as No. 1 Tennessee defeated South Carolina, 85-73, last night in Knoxville, Tenn., for their school-record 19th consecutiv­e victory.

Tennessee owns the longest active winning streak of any Div. 1 team and is 11-0 in SEC competitio­n for the first time in school history.

The Volunteers (23-1, 11-0) also earned their 23rd straight home win. Tennessee’s last home loss was to Auburn on Jan. 2, 2018.

South Carolina (12-12, 7-4) made a season-high 14 3-pointers and shot 60.9 percent from beyond the arc but couldn’t slow Tennessee’s high-powered offense. Tennessee was 9-of-20 on 3-point attempts.

Tennessee’s superior accuracy from shorter range made the difference. Tennessee was 25-of-49, while South Carolina was just 12of-40 on 2-pointers.

Villanova 85, Providence 67 — Eric Paschall scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half and the No. 13 Wildcats (20-5, 11-1) rebounded from their first Big East loss by crushing the Friars (14-11, 4-8) in Villanova Pa.

Fellow senior Phil Booth added 22 for Villanova, which was fresh off a onepoint loss to No. 10 Marquette after getting off to a program best 10-0 start in league play.

Nate Watson led Providence with 18 points. The Friars have lost four of their past five but were coming off an impressive 14-point road win at St. John’s.

Florida State 88, Wake Forest 66 — Senior Christ Koumadje recorded his first career double-double, with 20 points and 12 rebounds, to help the No. 17 Seminoles (19-5, 7-4 ACC) rout the Demon Deacons (9-14, 2-9) in Tallahasse­e, Fla.

Koumadje, a 7-foot-4 center who is playing in his 109th career game, made 10 of 12 shots from the floor and set a career high in rebounds as the Seminoles won their sixth straight.

Virginia Tech 76, Georgia Tech 68 — Ty Outlaw scored 20 points and the No. 22 Hokies (19-5, 8-4 ACC) defeated the Jackets (11-14, 3-9) in Blackksbur­g, Va.

Outlaw hit six 3-pointers for the Hokies, who rallied from a three-point halftime deficit and snapped a twogame losing streak.

Kerry Blackshear Jr. and Nickeil Alexander-Walker each scored 16 points for the Hokies, who swept the season series.

Michael Devoe paced the Yellow Jackets with 22. In New England games: Army71,BU61— Matt Wilson had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Black Knights (12-14, 7-6 Patriot) past the Terriers (11-15, 4-9 in West Point, N.Y.

Javante McCoy had 19 points for BU. Max Mahoney added 14 points and Tyler Scanlon had 11.

Colgate 74, Holy Cross 70 — Tucker Richardson had a season-high 20 points and the Raiders (16-10, 8-5 Patriot) edged the Crusaders (1313, 4-9) in Worcester.

Caleb Green had 19 points for the Crusaders. Jacob Grandison added 13 points. Austin Butler had 12 points.

UMass-Lowell 86, Albany 54 — Christian Lutete had 20 points and 11 rebounds as the River Hawks (14-12, 6-5 America East) easily defeated the host Great Danes (8-17, 3-7).

Josh Gantz had 16 points for UMass Lowell. Darius Henderson added 10. Shawn Jones had 10 points and six assists for the visitors.

Vermont 73, New Hampshire 44 — Anthony Lamb had 20 points as the Catamounts (20-5, 10-1 America East) rolled past the Wildcats (3-21, 1-10) in Burlington, Vt., their fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Hartford 81, Maine 73 — Travis Weathering­ton had a season-high 22 points as the Hawks (13-12, 6-4 America East) topped the Black Bears (5-21, 3-8) in West Hartford.

Andrew Fleming had 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Maine.
