Hub knows how to celebrate
The Independence Day celebration on the Charles River Esplanade is just the beginning of a long weekend of holiday events in the city. Here’s a rundown of places to go and things to do:
July 4
Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular: Now in it’s 45th year, the celebration features the Boston Pops under conductor Keith Lockhart. This year’s concert will include performances by Queen Latifah, Arlo Guthrie, Lynn resident Amanda Mena and the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters Chorus.
The concert is set to begin at 8 p.m. with the fireworks show at 10 p.m.
The USS Constitution, the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, travels at 10 a.m. to Fort Independence on Castle Island, where she will fire a 21-gun salute at about 11:30 a.m.
Visitors to the Massachusetts Archives and Commonwealth Museum can see one of the 14 original copies of the Declaration of Independence, which was sent by the Continental Congress to Massachusetts during the Revolutionary War, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
July 5
USS Constitution open for tours starting at 10 a.m.

July 6
Chinatown Main Street Festival, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Enjoy martial arts, Asian dance and crafts, and health booths at various locations on Tyler, Harrison, Beach and Hudson streets in Boston’s Chinatown.
History buffs can learn the story-behind-the-story about the origins of Quincy Market on a free walking tour at 11 a.m. Saturday. Then, music will fill the Marketplace with military bands from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
