PELOSI’S PARTY TRULY STAR-CROSSED

Potent progressives showing their disconnect from reality

- Grace CURLEY

We live in what may be the most polarized political atmosphere ever.

And yet, I think there is one thing we can all agree on: Nancy Pelosi has completely lost control of her party.

It makes sense. The House speaker can’t get through one Thursday press conference without being peppered with questions about whatever inflammatory comments her new woke contemporaries have made.

Pelosi pretends like these millennial know-it-alls aren’t driving her party off a political cliff.

When asked to answer for their gaffes directly, Madame Speaker’s responses vary. Sometimes she makes excuses for them.

For instance, when U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was criticized for anti-Semitic remarks, the speaker said Omar “has a different experience in the use of words.”

Whatever that means. But sometimes she simply pleads ignorance. When asked about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks on concentration camps, the speaker claimed she was not “up to date” on what the Bronx congresswoman had said.

Nancy can’t rein these progressives in and she knows it. That’s why she pretends that they make up a very small portion of the party.

In fact, when Pelosi appeared on “60 Minutes,” she was asked by Lesley Stahl about AOC’s “wing” of the Democratic party. Pelosi responded defensively, “that’s like five people.”

But whether Pelosi wants to acknowledge it or not, these “five people” wield undeniable power. If they didn’t, Nancy would have put a stop to their buffoonery long ago.

Unlike the old-school Dems — think Mike Capuano or Joe Crowley — who could walk through a coffee shop unnoticed, these newbies are stars. They have something more valuable than experience … they have followers. Lots of them. Don’t believe me? Check AOC’s Twitter. (She’s up to 4.6 million last time I checked).

So Pelosi is in a bind. But keeping that in mind, I do think she should lay down the law on one issue immediately.

And it is simple: no more comparisons.

That’s right. Dwight K. Schrute from “The Office” once wisely said, “comparisons are hard.”

Ain’t that the truth? For starters, the Holocaust is brought up almost weekly.

And if you think AOC was the first person to do it, think again.

Beto O’Rourke invoked the Holocaust while discussing illegal immigration in South Carolina.

Nothing is “like” the Holocaust. Most sane people know this. It certainly shouldn’t be used as a gratuitous talking point by hacks attempting to trend on Twitter.

Next on my list of “Comparisons Liberals Shouldn’t Make But Probably Will” — comparing President Trump to evil rulers of the past.

Trump has been likened to Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, Adolph Hitler and many others.

I wish these comparisons were merely from trolls on Twitter or basement bloggers.

But alas, they have been made by recognized people like House Whip James Clyburn and former Cabinet members like Robert Reich and Madeline Albright.

I hate to burst their bubbles but there is a major hole in their cliched Trump/dictator comparison.

Mainly that Trump, no matter how much the Left may have tried to convince you, has not killed anyone.

And finally, there are the 9/11 comparisons.

Democratic Congressional candidate Amy McGrath of Kentucky revealed at a speaking event last year just how distressed she felt after finding out that President Trump had won the election.

“The only feeling I can describe that’s any close to it was the feeling I had after 9/11.”

Being bummed about your candidate losing the election is not similar to the day Americans were jumping out of burning skyscrapers.

These comparisons aren’t just disrespectful, they put the Dems’ disconnect from reality on full display.

Nancy Pelosi probably knows this. Whether or not she’d dare to address the issue with the Instagram stars running her party, well that’s a different story.
