Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke praise daughter in ‘Stranger Things’
Amherst’s own Uma Thurman and former hubby Ethan Hawke appear to be the picture of proud parents, as the pair applauds their daughter, Maya Hawke, for her performance in the newest season of “Stranger Things.”
The 21-year-old can be seen making her debut as Robin on the Netflix series after season 3 hit the streaming site late last week. And as the rest of the world spent the weekend binge-watching the new episodes of the comedic thriller, the actress’ Hollywood mom and dad were busy singing her praises.
To kick off the compliments, the elder Hawke penned a lengthy Instagram post showing his support for Maya’s blossoming career. Ethan — who’s known for his work in movies like “Dead Poets Society,” “Training Day” and “Boyhood” — started off by writing: “Some of you may have missed her in last year’s BBC production of Little Women. Some of you may have missed her work at
Juilliard. I know many missed out on numerous high school productions — heck I even missed a few and I’m her father. Some of you may know her music, some may not.”
“But Ladies & Gentleman, get to know MAYA HAWKE,” he added. “She’s the real thing. #StrangerThings.”
Thurman — who has her own list of major movie credits, starring in pics like “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill” — also took a turn celebrating her daughter’s work on social media.
“My victorious loving mermaid daughter,” Thurman wrote alongside a pic of Maya posing in a pool. “A weekend of triumph on Stranger Things. Congratulations beloved (Maya Hawke) #strangerthings #netflix #motherlylove #mayahawke.”
Maya’s star potential seems to be promising, purely based on her parents’ own paths. The duo, divorced since 2005, soaked up the spotlight as a celebrity power couple back in the ’90s and ’00s. They met while filming the 1997 flick “Gattaca” and were married in May 1998 — two months before welcoming Maya to the world.
In addition to their “Stranger Things” standout, the famous exes share 17-year-old son, Levon Thur
man-Hawke. Ethan also has daughters Clementine, 11, and Indiana , 8, with current wife, Ryan Hawke. Meanwhile, Thurman is a mother to 6-year-old Luna with her ex-fiancé, French financier Arpad Busson.
