Put these tasty events on your summer menu

Summer always goes by too quickly in New England. Take full advantage of the nice weather with a little help from these local freebies and events in the city over the next few weeks. Free hot dogs from Kayem Foods 100 Summer St. Tuesday

Kayem Foods will be giving out 3,000 free hot dogs from noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesday outside 100 Summer St. As the official hot dog of the Boston Red Sox, Kayem is celebratin­g summertime baseball with fans next week with a free lunch and a visit from Wally the Green Monster. Pat Patriot and Blades the Bruin may also be making an appearance since Kayem is also a sponsor of the Patriots and Bruins. The event is free and open to the public and the hot dogs are compliment­ary on a first-come, firstserve­d basis.

Blues, Bites and Beverages 469 Moody St., Waltham July 28

Balani in Waltham is hosting artist Karen Moss, on July 28, for an art-themed cocktail party. Guests will be treated to compliment­ary appetizers as they enjoy Moss’ art, which will be on display throughout the restaurant.

The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. and while it is free and open to the public, there will be a cash bar. Moss will be available to discuss her art with attendees. Her paintings are colorful pop art pieces, many with a satirical deeper meaning.

There will be several cocktail specials for the evening all inspired by Moss’ works like the Polka Dog Robot with Espolon Tequila, passion fruit puree, Passoa, lime, Carolina Reaper Pepper Tincture and salt, and the Strange Trio with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, strawberry-infused Campari and sweet vermouth.

Summer Thursdays at Post 390 406 Stuart St. Throughout the summer

Executive chef Nick Deutmeyer at Post 390 put together a series called “Summer Thursdays” — specials offering special culinary demonstrat­ions and tastings each week from 4 to 6 p.m. Over the

next few weeks, Post 390 will be partnering with Island Creek Oysters, Ward’s Berry Farm and Snappy Lobster for some cool after-work treats. The demonstrat­ions are free to watch, but for small bites the prices range from $1 to $12 each week. This is the 21st year that the Boston Harbor Hotel has been hosting their Summer in the City program. This year it features Pop Soul Tuesdays, Rat Pack Wednesdays, Blues Barge Thursdays and Friday Movies by Moonlight.

On Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, there will be live music from 6 to 10 p.m, played from the floating barge in front of the hotel. And on Fridays of course it’s movie night, with classics played on the big screen for everyone to enjoy. The next few on the docket include “Jurassic Park,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
