Evans casts off ‘Captain’ persona in upcoming thriller
Chris Evans may have called it quits when it comes to playing Captain America, but he’s not totally shedding his onscreen hero status. Netflix just released its first trailer for its upcoming movie “The Red Sea Diving Resort,” where folks can catch a glimpse of the Boston-raised actor starring as an operative running a covert mission to rescue Ethiopians.
The upcoming movie marks Evans’ first film appearance since portraying the famous patriotic superhero for the last time in April with “Avengers: Endgame.” And although his upcoming role is still very much embedded in the savior category, the part seems to be far more serious than his Marvel persona.
As seen in the debut trailer for the Netflix film, which is based on a real-life story, his character leads a group of agents as they try to discreetly smuggle families facing genocide in the North African nation to safety in Israel. He devises the plan to use a waterfront vacation spot in the Sudan as a front for their mission.

liams, who plays a refugee rescued by the secret team, says at the start of the new teaser.
The action-packed sneak-peek goes on to show how the situation quickly escalates as the operation draws suspicion from authorities, facing extreme danger as they still press on with their efforts.
The movie is based on true events from the 1980s, when Israeli Mossad agents worked to save Jewish Ethiopians in Sudan from religious persecution. It’s set to hit Netflix on July 31, with other cast members including Academy Awardwinner Ben Kingsley (“Gandhi”), Greg Kinnear (“As Good As It Gets”), Haley Bennett (“Girl on the Train”), Michiel Huisman (“Game of Thrones”) and fellow Bostonian Alessandro Nivola (“American Hustle”).
