Surging Revolution blank Cincinnati

Carles Gil had a goal and an assist, Matt Turner had a career-high seven saves and the Revolution beat FC Cincinnati, 2-0, last night on the road to extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games.

The Revs (8-8-6) are 6-0-4 since a 5-0 loss at the Chicago Fire on May 8.

Defender Kendall Watson poked away the ball from Gustavo Bou at the top of the 6-yard box, and Gil firsttimed a rising side-footer into the net to give the Revs the lead in the ninth minute.

Antonio Mlinar Delamea scored in the 55th, heading a cross by Gil just inside the near post. It was the third career goal for Delamea, a 28-year-old defender in his third MLS season.

Expansion Cincinnati (5-14-2) has lost 8-of-10 and has been outscored 33-9 during that stretch.

Gonzalo Martínez hadagoal and an assist in the closing minutes to help host Atlanta United beat D.C. United 2-0. Brad Guzan had three saves for his MLS-leading 10th shutout this season.

Atlanta (11-8-3) controlled the action throughout the match.

Yates takes stage

Simon Yates of Britain posted a second stage win with a solo raid during the last Pyrenean trek of the Tour de France as Thibaut Pinot gained more time on his rivals in the fight for the yellow jersey in Foix, France.

Yates triumphed at the summit of the Prat d’Albis in Stage 15, three days after his first stage victory.

Pinot crossed the finish in second place, 33 seconds behind Yates, and moved to fourth overall according to provisiona­l results. Julian Alaphilipp­e cracked in the final of the four climbs on the program but salvaged his yellow jersey.

Bucs sign White

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed first-round pick Devin White, the fifth overall selection out of

LSU.

White was the 2018 Butkus Award winner as the nation’s top college linebacker and was a first-team All-American. He is expected to be an immediate starter at inside linebacker . ...

Isner wins Newport

Top-seeded John Isner used his blistering serve to overcome scorching conditions and win a title for the fourth time on Newport’s grass courts, beating No. 7 seed Alexander Bublik 7-6 (2), 6-3 at the Hall of Fame Open in Rhode Island.
