Suicide? Are you kidding me?

Pedophile’s death demands full probe

If you believe convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who would’ve been a key witness implicating scores of powerful elites, died by suicide in federal custody, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you.

For starters, why does a prisoner in a high-profile case in a high-security federal prison who was recently found semi-unconscious in his cell with markings around his neck — and placed on suicide watch — have the tools available to hang himself ?

One would think the Federal Bureau of Prisons would remove rope or any other object from Epstein’s cell that could be used to end his life.

But curiously that wasn’t the case as Epstein reportedly hung himself early Saturday morning pending a slew of child sex trafficking charges.

And why wasn’t a “suicidal” prisoner like Epstein under constant supervision while in custody? Do prisoners facing potentially 45 years in jail suddenly cheer up and stop being depressed in the span of just two weeks?

No, they do not. Especially since more and more sex trafficking victims have come forward in recent weeks detailing horrific sex abuse and exploitation allegedly at the hands of Epstein and other high-profile co-conspirators making the wealthy financier’s chances of beating the serious charges even more remote.

Compounding the mystery surrounding Epstein’s highly suspicious death is after his first reported “suicide” attempt in late July he was moved to solitary confinement, which usually worsens an inmate’s mental state. Is that what U.S. prisons do these days to prevent suicide — place suicidal prisoners awaiting trial in even more depressing living arrangements?

It just doesn’t pass the sniff test. Now add to it the timing given that Epstein’s alleged “suicide” on Saturday took place just one day after a trove of damning documents were unsealed, potentially implicating powerful past and present politicians at the highest echelons of our government, high society and beyond.

Only a fool born yesterday would believe that’s just a coincidence.

Hence Attorney General Bill Barr has called for an immediate investigation. In a statement released Saturday he said, “I was appalled to learn that Jeffrey Epstein was found dead early this morning from an apparent suicide while in federal custody. Mr. Epstein’s death raises serious questions that must be answered.”

Barr added, “In addition to the FBI’s investigation, I have consulted with the Inspector General who is opening an investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Epstein’s death.”

Not a minute too soon.
