Scaramucci: Trump would face defeat in GOP primary

- By ALEXI COHAN

Ousted White House aide Anthony Scaramucci said he wants to see a 2020 GOP primary challenge to Donald Trump — and he predicts the president who fired him would lose.

“I’m predicting he won’t be the nominee,” Scaramucci said about Trump, speaking on Herald Radio Thursday. He said Mitt Romney could “take on Trump handily” in the 2020 presidential election. Romney has not indicated he intends to make a third run for president.

“Once we break the fever and the spell of President Trump we will get a few very, very qualified politicians,” said Scaramucci.

Scaramucci, who has recently taken an onslaught of targeted tweets from Trump and his supporters, said he is currently organizing a movement to replace Trump as the 2020 presidential nominee.

“I’m in the process of organizing a Republican movement to stop President Trump and I predict if this movement is successful, and I believe it will be, he will not be the nominee in 2020, they’ll replace him at the top of the ticket,” said Scaramucci, whose plan relies on getting top Republicans to speak out against Trump.

“My prediction is that a few courageous people will step forward, and if that happens, the dam will break. And it’ll be just a bad mark in history — the Trump presidency,” said Scaramucci.

Scaramucci, a Wall Street financier, was appointed White House communications director in July 2017 and was fired after just six days in the position, after an expletive-laden rant to a reporter.

He told Herald Radio host Hillary Chabot that Democrats don’t have a candidate who can take on Trump, who he described as “a full blown demagogue.”

But Scaramucci said Trump is seeing “disastrous polling numbers” in the Granite State, where the president held a rally on Thursday, which leads him to use “racist tropes” in an effort to energize his base.

“He’s saying stuff that he’s hoping will charge them and cause massive voter participation on their side but it’s not good for the country,” said Scaramucci, who added that Trump’s “racially charged rhetoric” is a “cancer” to society.

“I’m now very, very fearful that he’s going to rip up the fabric of the society,” Scaramucci said of Trump, who he claimed has low self-esteem and is a bully.
