Man shot in front of T bus riders
20-year-old is left in critical condition
A 20-year-old man shot in broad daylight Friday on Warren Street in Roxbury is in critical condition, Boston police Commissioner William Gross said.
Police officers responded to a radio call for a person shot at 3:59 p.m. at 530 Warren St., where they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Gross said officers responded quickly to the crime scene to canvass the area for witnesses or video of the incident.
“A brazen attack at this time of day is unacceptable, so we vow to work with all of our agencies and definitely with the DA to make sure that we can keep our neighborhoods as safe as possible,” said Gross, who was joined by Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins, Superintendent Paul Donovan and Superintendent Gerard Bailey.
Gross said an MBTA bus was in the area at the time of the shooting, but no one on board was injured. The bus driver suffered a medical emergency and was taken to an area hospital.
Rollins said the passengers on the bus witnessed the shooting.
The trauma team responded for anyone who was in distress. Police urged drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area.
Boston police issued a traffic alert on Twitter at 4:41 pm saying, “Due to a firearm-related incident in the area of 530 Warren St in Roxbury, motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.”
Police did not offer any details about arrests or possible suspects yet, but have ask the public to call Crime Stoppers if they have any information.
