Jack’s Abby celebrates lager with German flair, new weekend party
Even though it’s still September, it’s time for Octoberfest — at least at Jack’s Abby in Framingham (100 Clinton St.), which is hosting its first such celebration. The 8-year-old brewery was founded by three brothers, Jack, Eric and Sam Hendler. The Massachusetts-based brand now sells its beers all over the country.
From Sept. 27 to 29, Jack’s Abby Octoberfest will not only ring in the celebration at its Beer Hall, but will also feature its seasonal beer called Copper Legend. The team describes Copper Legend lager as “malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable.” The beer is brewed with “noble hops,” which are highly aromatic, but relatively low in bitterness and are widely used in central-European-style lagers, especially in Octoberfest varieties.
Jack’s Abby specializes in lagers. The fermentation process for lagers is slower than that of ales and in Bavaria, lagers are the beer of choice. Jack’s Abby uses traditional brewing techniques and travels to Germany often to procure select hops and malt from Bavaria to best control the quality of their beers.
The party will be drawing a great deal of inspiration from the German roots of Jack’s Abby. There will be oompah bands, German fare, Copper Legend beer, pretzels, stein hoistings and lots more.
The event is open to all and admission is free. Sept 29 will be centered around family-friendly activities, such as face painting and games for the kids.
There are also a limited number of VIP packages for sale. The VIP packages include reserved seating, a three-course family-style meal, welcome beer, Octoberfest stein and a tour led by one of the Hendler brothers. The meal will feature Oktoberfest house pretzels, locally grown radishes with salt and butter, weisswurst with beef broth and sweet mustard, crispy roasted pork knuckle and a surprise dessert.
These packages are $50 per person and are being sold in bundles of four.
