Rockland tops Abington in overtime

ROCKLAND — Rockland squandered a late lead in devastatin­g fashion against rival Abington when Antwonne Graham Jr. sank a deep 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

But the Bulldogs displayed their perseveran­ce and regrouped quickly, using a stout defensive effort to prevail in the extra frame with a 56-51 South Shore League victory.

Rockland scored the first four points of overtime before Comeau, who netted a game-high 18 points and also engineered a key 9-0 run with Williams late in the fourth quarter, knocked down a 3-pointer with just over a minute left. Williams (16 points) followed by hitting a pair of free throws and Dante Vasquez came up with a clutch steal to seal it.

In more boys basketball — In Commonweal­th Athletic Conference action, Mystic Valley (3-3) head coach Tony Ferullo earned his 250th career varsity victory with a 76-70 win over Whittier Tech. Alfie Tsang struck for 27 points and 10 boards, while

Kenny Jean-Pierre dropped 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Eagles’ third consecutiv­e win. … Junior James Genetti notched 15 points and 10 boards for Shawsheen (6-2) in a 58-38 win over Northeast.

Jalen Bing-Wallace finished with a triple-double (16 points, 18 rebounds, 12 blocks), and Jayden Aponte poured in a team-high 22 points, as Excel (4-5) edged Fenway in an overtime thriller, 65-63, in the Boston City League.

Brayden Sullivan registered a career-high 28 points, as Franklin (9-1) rolled past North Attleboro, 72-29, in a Hockomock League affair. … Amari Brown turned in an 18-point night, as Oliver Ames (8-4) took down Sharon ina romp, 77-46. … Justin Daniels and Bryant Ciccio combined for 29 points, while Qualeem Charles racked up 12 points and 10 boards in a 62-58 win for Attleboro (7-2) over Foxboro. … Alex Fritz erupted for 30 points, as King Philip (5-5) survived a battle with Stoughton, 90-84, in double overtime.

In a South Coast Conference showdown, senior guard Shane Mello notched 20 points for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-3) in a 65-46 victory over Seekonk. … Jordan Rodrigues had a double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds), and Colby Campos sank two free throws with two seconds remaining to give Case (4-5) a wild 50-49 win over Somerset Berkley.

Mike Loughnane sunk 29 points for BC High (6-2) in an 84-63 victory over Catholic Conference rival Malden Catholic…. Kurtis Henderson scored 33 points, putting him over the 1,000-point mark for his career, as Catholic Memorial (7-1) rolled to a 76-53 win over St. John’s Prep. Henderson is the 13th player in CM history to turn the trick.

In a Bay State Conference battle, four players scored double-digits led by senior Grayson Hargens who dropped 16 for Newton North (7-1) in a 71-62 overtime win over Milton.

Jeff Barbosa notched 21 points for Lynn Classical (7-3) in a 69-48 victory over Northeaste­rn Conference opponent Winthrop. … Junior Bobby Jellison drained seven three-pointers as part of a 25 point performanc­e, lifting Salem (5-4) to a 76-45 win over Saugus.

Girls Basketball

Shay Bollin turned in yet another stellar performanc­e, scoring 18 points, while grabbing 12 rebounds to go with seven blocks, as Bridgewate­rRaynham (9-0) remained undefeated with a 56-39 victory over Southeaste­rn Conference foe Brockton.

In the Dual County League, Amaris Mills dropped 27 points for Newton South (8-2) in a 56-48 win over Waltham .… Kizziah Ruff notched 20 points while Sophia Vitel struck for 18 in a 54-41 victory for Cambridge (8-2) over Bedford.

In a Hockomock League tilt, Ali Brigham drained 26 points, powering Franklin (8-0) past North Attleboro, 5333. … Katelyn Mollica knocked down 19 points, as Foxboro (7-1) defeated Attleboro, 65-44.

Senior captain Kaya Fernandez put up 21 points for Bourne (5-4) in a 59-37 win over South Coast Conference opponent Apponequet.

In a Cape Ann League contest, freshman guard Alyssa Thompson and senior guard Angelina Tacubacci combined for 18 points in a 40-31 win for Pentucket (8-1) over Hamilton-Wenham.

Sophie Brown scored 17 points for Wakefield (4-5) in a 41-35 victory over Middlesex League opponent Arlington.

In a Patriot League battle, junior forward Emily Flynn struck for 23 points while sophomore McKalah Gaine compiled 13 points and 10 boards in a 63-47 win for Hanover (3-6) over Plymouth South.

Janae Gomes led the way with 18 points, and drilled a game-winning free throw with 30 seconds left, aiding Randolph (7-3) during a thrilling 56-55 overtime victory against South Shore League opponent Hull.

Senior Mackenzie Daleba was dominant, scoring 22 points and collecting 15 rebounds for Cathedral (5-1) in an 88-57 victory over Catholic Conference foe Archbishop Williams (6-3).

In a Bay State Conference matchup, senior Taylor Bailey put up 16 points for Newton North (8-2) in a 54-27 victory over Milton.

Senior guard Ofek Rotlevy drained four 3-pointers en route to an 18-point outing, carrying Lexington (6-3) past Watertown, 42-39, in the Middlesex League.

Fiona Mannion had another impressive game, piling up 24 points as Latin Academy (4-5) held off O’Bryant, 48-47, in the Boston City League.

Freshman Maggie Crofford scored 17 points, including 15 in the second half, to lift St. John Paul II (9-2) to a 44-28 win over Cape and Islands League opponent Sturgis East.

School notes

After a four-year hiatus, the state basketball championsh­ip are heading back to the DCU in Worcester. MIAA Basketball Committee chairman Jeff Newhall of St. Mary’s said that there would be six finals contested at the DCU Center with two other finals to played at a facility in Worcester.

Rob DiLoreto stepped down as head football coach at Arlington to return to Everett as an assistant coach. DiLoreto previously served in that capacity at Everett, before accepting the head coaching job at Arlington last year. He is the dean of students at Arlington High School.

Methuen announced the hiring of Cam Roper as its new head baseball coach. Roper has spent the past six years serving as the pitching coach at Lowell.
