Lightning strike, trade for Coleman

-

The Tampa Bay Lightning made the first big move ahead of next week’s NHL trade deadline, acquiring forward Blake Coleman from the New Jersey Devils for prospect Nolan Foote and a conditional 2020 first-round pick.

Coleman, a fourth-year player from Plano, Texas, has scored 21 goals this year and is signed through next season.

A left-handed shot, Coleman is on pace to set career-high totals in goals, assists and points and was a top target for teams seeking scoring help.

Foote, a 6-foot-4 winger still playing in the WHL, was Tampa’s first round draft selection in 2019.

Earlier in the day, the New York Islanders solidified their defense for the playoff push, trading for New Jersey captain Andy Greene.

The Devils got young defenseman David Quenneville and the Islanders’ second-round pick in the 2021 draft in return for Greene.

Penguins 5, Red Wings 1 — Patric Hornqvist had two goals and an assist and the Penguins rolled over Detroit.

Sidney Crosby also scored to continue a fourgame point streak on Sunday. He has six goals and 19 points in his last 12 games since returning from injury.

Sabres 5, Maple Leafs 2 — Jack Eichel scored the goahead goal as part of a three-goal surge in a 91-second third-period span, and the Maple Leafs suffered another bad loss at Buffalo.

Oilers 4, Hurricanes 3 — Josh Archibald scored his second goal of the game in overtime, NHL points leader Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists, and the Edmonton Oilers went on the road to beat the Carolina Hurricanes.

Draisaitl set up Archibald’s goal 3:57 into OT for his 95th point of the season.

Ducks 5, Canucks 1 — Adam Henrique scored twice, Derek Grant had a goal and an assist, and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Canucks.

Predators 2, Blues 1 — The Predators have their first three-game winning streak since October.

Kyle Turris scored with 2:12 left, and Nashville beat St. Louis to sweep the season series from the defending Stanley Cup champs.

Nashville has won seven of 10 to climb a point out of the Western Conference’s two wild card spots with three games in hand on Arizona and two on Calgary.

Senators 4, Stars 3 — Artem Anisimov scored at 3:48 of overtime to give the Senators an upset win over the Dallas Stars.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Brady Tkachuk and Tyler Ennis also scored for Ottawa. Craig Anderson stopped 36 shots.

Devils 4, Blue Jackets 3 — Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made a careerhigh 52 saves and stopped six of seven attempts in the shootout to lead the Devils over the scuffling Blue Jackets
