Stolen Lamborghinis collide after heist at dealership; three end up arrested

- By STEFAN GELLER

One man and two juveniles were arrested on Tuesday after they broke into a luxury car dealership early in the morning and stole two Lamborghini SUVs valued at over $250,000 each, police said.

Officers responded to the Herb Chambers dealership on Route 20 at around 3 a.m. after they were notified of a break-in by the alarm company, according to Wayland Police Lt. Sean Gibbons.

“We knew entry was gained to the building though a smashed window, they then obtained keys and used them to take the cars that were in the front lot,” Gibbons said.

As police were en route to the dealership, Gibbons said one officer saw the two stolen Lamborghinis and another car speed away together and was able to stop the third car, which police believe the thieves used to get to the dealership. Two suspects, both juveniles, were in that car and were taken into custody.

The suspects in the stolen Lamborghinis escaped but ultimately crashed into each other and another car in Malden at around 8 a.m., according to police reports. A woman in the vehicle struck by one of the luxury SUVs was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. No information was provided on her condition.

Elijah McKinney, 18, was arrested by Malden Police after they chased him down the street from the crash and found two sets of Lamborghini keys on him, according to police reports. He was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

Prosecutors said in court Tuesday that McKinney had “five pages on his juvenile record,” and had previous larceny offenses.

Despite arresting McKinney, two other suspects escaped from pursuing officers and are on the run. According to police reports, McKinney told detectives that the suspects who avoided capture are Christian Virgile and Jerry Vastey.

“It took us a total of five hours to solve the case and recover the vehicles,” Gibbons said.

McKinney was ordered to be held by house arrest with a GPS monitoring system and must stay away from the Wayland dealership. He is being defended by attorney George Warren and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on April 1.

In a statement, the Herb Chambers Companies thanked police for their work on the case.

“The Herb Chambers Companies would like to thank the Wayland Police and other agencies for their quick response and outstanding work. Our technology resources were helpful in this case and we will continue to work with and support investigators as the case moves forward,” said George K. Regan, spokesman for The Herb Chambers Companies.
