TWO FACE EASTIE HATE CRIME CHARGES

Mother, daughter allegedly attacked for speaking Spanish

- By SEAN PHILIP COTTER

Two Revere women face charges in what District Attorney Rachael Rollins called the “hate crime” of attacking two Spanishspeaking women in East

Boston.

Jenny Ennamorati and Stephanie Armstrong, both 25 and from Revere, are each charged with two counts of assault and battery and two counts of civil rights violations. Ennamorati is also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for using a shod foot, according to a release from Rollins’ office that initially was entirely in Spanish.

Rollins’ office said that the suspects attacked a 46-yearold woman and her 15-yearold daughter Feb. 15 because Ennamorati and Armstrong took issue with the fact that the East Boston mother and daughter were speaking Spanish and laughing.

The mother and daughter told police that the pair attacked them in Maverick Square in heavily Hispanic East Boston, first yelling at them and then physically striking them. The mother and daughter sought medical treatment afterward, Rollins said.

Ennamorati and Armstrong told the cops that they had been drinking and were acting aggressively. They’re due in East Boston District Court on March 9.

“There is no place for hatred or bigotry in Suffolk County. The sense of entitlement and privilege these defendants must have felt to utter these hateful and racist words, and then to physically attack a mother and her child for laughing and speaking Spanish is outrageous and reprehensible,” Rollins said in a statement that called this incident a “hate crime.” She added, “The increase in hate crimes is completely unacceptable.”

She said, “I want to meet and personally thank the people who witnessed this attack and intervened to help.”
