Bay State at 35 deaths, 3,240 cases

Ten more people in Massachuse­tts have died from the coronaviru­s, the state Department of Public Health announced on Friday as it also reported 823 new cases from the day before.

The 10 new deaths brings the state total to 35 coronaviru­s deaths.

The Bay State’s total confirmed cases is now at 3,240. Of those confirmed cases in the Bay State, 2,885 cases are under investigat­ion.

Of the remaining cases, 99 cases are tied to the Biogen employee conference in Boston’s downtown waterfront in late February, 163 are tied to local transmissi­on and 93 are travel-related.

The deaths mostly include elderly men and women with pre-existing conditions from across the state.

More than 29,000 people have been tested for the virus in Massachuse­tts, up from 23,621.

A total of 288 Massachuse­tts patients have been hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19 and 999 have not.

Most cases, 685, are in Middlesex County and the second highest case count comes from Suffolk County with 631 cases.

The age group with the most coronaviru­s patients is 50-59 years old. There are at least 15 labs contributi­ng results to the case count along with the state lab in Jamaica Plain.

More than 85,000 coronaviru­s cases have been confirmed in the U.S., and at least 1,246 people across the country have died from the highly contagious disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 576,000 cases have been confirmed around the world, and at least 26,000 people have died from the disease, a Johns Hopkins University tracker shows. More than 128,000 people have recovered.
