Man gunned down in midday Dot slay
A man was shot dead on the front porch of a home in Dorchester in a “brazen” daytime slaying — the second example of gunfire in a Boston neighborhood during daylight in just a matter of days.
The man, said to be in his 40s, was found with fatal gunshot wounds on Bernard Street at 4 minutes after noon Monday, Police Commissioner William Gross said.
“Folks, we find ourselves again at a shooting midday,” Gross said at the scene. “I want to thank those who called 911. This is time for us to work together because we can bring justice.”
Gross said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins said the victim died on the front porch of the residence. She also thanked those who called police and vowed a suspect, if caught, won’t be let back out on the street during the pandemic.
“This is a brazen daytime shooting … and we hope you trust us enough to call and help us,” she added.
Police are “actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding” the slaying and ask anyone with information to contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at 617343-4470.
“People are helping in the neighborhood. They want to see this violence stopped,” Gross added, saying crime is being committed by only “1 to 2%” of those on the streets.
On Saturday, a man recently let out of jail unloaded his gun at Boston Police, who fired back in a broad-daylight shootout on Mass. Ave., cops say.
Tyler Brown, 40, of Boston, was arrested later and charged with including assault with intent to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
