Political setup of Flynn comes back to haunt Obama

- Peter LUCAS

Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.

That is the famous — or infamous — quote attributed to Lavrentiy Beria, the head of Joe Stalin’s dreaded secret police, the NKVD, in the Soviet Union.

Beria, at the paranoid Stalin’s bidding, saw to the killing or imprisonment of an untold number of Russians deemed guilty of one political crime or another from 1941 until Stalin’s death in 1953.

Innocence did not matter if Stalin wanted you wasted. Once targeted, Beria fabricated the crime to fit the victim.

That is not the case in the United States, the bastion of democracy where, charged with a crime, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Unless, of course, you are targeted for destruction the way the Obama administration targeted former U.S. Army Gen. Michael Flynn, the man who knew too much.

What happened was this: Obama pointed at the man and FBI Director James Comey, Obama’s Beria, delivered the crime.

Now the whole thing is blowing up in Obama’s face, beginning with Attorney General William Barr’s decision last week, following an investigation, to drop the prosecution by the Justice Department of Flynn for misleading the FBI to which he, under pressure, had pled guilty.

The case against Flynn fell apart when it was revealed that the FBI, under orders from former FBI Director Comey, sought to set Flynn up in a perjury trap by getting him to deviate from the transcript, which the FBI had, of a phone call with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Prior to setting Flynn up as the fall guy in an attempt to damage incoming president Donald Trump, the FBI had found nothing illegal or wrong with the call since Flynn was President-elect Trump’s national security adviser and it was his duty to deal with foreign leaders..

The phone call was not illegal in the first place, but the FBI sought in an impromptu interview to get Flynn to deviate from the transcript so they could nail him on a perjury rap.

One of the documents released by the Justice Department are the notes of one of the questioning FBI agents asking whether their goal was “to get him (Flynn) to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired.”

Flynn resigned as Trump’s national security adviser days after Trump’s 2016 inauguration when it was learned that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence about the phone call.

In December 2017, Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI agents about whether he advised the Russians to moderate their response to sanctions levied in the last days of the Obama administration.

The plea came after Flynn was financially ruined, and to ward off FBI threats to go after his son.

Since then, and before the dropped prosecution, Flynn sought to withdraw his plea on the grounds that he had been set up and entrapped by the FBI.

What has emerged is that Obama had it in for Flynn and was out to get him. Obama, it has been revealed through documents released by the Justice Department, had intimate knowledge of the wiretapped details of Flynn’s phone calls to the Russian ambassador even though there was nothing wrong, improper or illegal about the calls.

It was also revealed that Comey had opened an FBI counterintelligence fishing investigation into Flynn, with disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok in charge, beginning in August 2016 when Flynn was a foreign policy adviser to candidate Trump.

The probe centered on paid speaking engagements Flynn had in Russia, which were public knowledge at the time, like the speaking engagements given by Bill Clinton.

President Trump has indicated that he would welcome Flynn back at the White House, as well he should.

Flynn was illegally targeted and smeared by Obama and the FBI. He served honorably in military intelligence for 33 years before he became director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012.

Obama fired him in 2014 over Flynn’s opposition to the Iranian nuclear arms deal. Obama also took issue with Flynn’s overly aggressive attitude toward combating radical Islamic terrorism.

What Obama and his FBI did to Flynn was criminal, and not the other way around.
