- By Joe Dwinell

A dozen more CVS drive-thru coronavirus test sites are opening in Massachusetts beginning today, adding to nine already testing for COVID-19.

For this round, the testing stops include one of the hardest hit cities in the state, Chelsea. The other communities are East Falmouth, Haverhill, two in Holbrook, New Bedford, Salem, Shrewsbury, Southwick, Waltham, Winchendon and Wrentham.

The nine Massachusetts CVS locations that opened first a week ago include: Bridgewater, Carver, Charlton, Danvers, Northhampton, Raynham, Westport, West Springfield and Worcester.

It’s all part of a commit- ment to open 1,000 drive- thru testing stops nation- wide in the coming weeks and process 1.5 million tests per month, CVS Healthsaid.

The sites will use selfswab tests and will require advance registration for those who meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria, in addition to age guidelines.

“As we move into a new phase of combating the pandemic and as communities begin to safely open up their local economies, we need testing to be easily accessible,” said Dr. Troyen Brennan, chief medical officer and executive vice president at CVS Health.

Each test will be sent to an “independent, thirdparty lab” for processing and the results will be available in about three days.

The 21 test sites in Massachusetts are part of a plan to open in 1,000 locations in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
