Kraft thinks they’ll play
Patriots owner Robert Kraft appeared on Fox News Tuesday night and sounded optimistic about the chances the league will play football this season.
“We’re preparing to hopefully play football this fall,” he said. “We’re working hand-in-hand with our (players) union. We believe we’re developing protocols that allow us to do it in a safe way, first for our players and our personnel, and then of course, the fans. I believe we can do it.”
Kraft was also asked about some of his charitable efforts in wake of the pandemic, namely agreeing to auction off his ring from Super Bowl LI, and the miraculous comeback against the Falcons.
“That one is pretty special,” Kraft said of the ring, which went for $1.025 million last Thursday. “I had a good friend Michael Rubin who started the All In Challenge, and he said, try to come up with something special that could garner a lot of support.”
After careful consideration, Kraft reiterated he chose the ring from the
Pats’ historic 28-3 comeback against the Falcons because of its added value, but also to symbolize recovery amid the COVID19 pandemic.
“In some ways, I feel the mood of our country is a little down now, and it’s still the greatest country in the world,” he said. “We’re going to come back. I think the ring epitomized that.”
Kraft indicated a Patriots fan, who wished to remain anonymous, bought it.
The fundraiser, established to feed kids, elderly and frontline workers in need, has generated more than $45 million, per its website.
