Bright and bubbly

Celebrate all the spritz possibilities with prosecco cocktails

- By oliVia Vanni

There are few drinks more effective at quenching your summer thirst than the spritz, and fortunately, there are so many versions of this beloved Italian beverage that they can tide you over for the entire season.

This cocktail originally hails from northern Italy, where people from the Veneto province have been pairing wine with bitter liquors and a splash of soda water since the early 1900s. To this day, the spritz is still a keystone of Italian drinking culture and the country’s evening ritual of aperitivo, when friends gather to relax and chat over drinks and snacks after getting off work and before heading to dinner.

Now, even within Italy, there are variations of the spritz. Most commonly, people will order this refreshing libation with Aperol, Campari or Select. However, the possibilities are practically endless, and the fine folks at Mionetto are showing us just how creative we can get when it comes to this cocktail.

Mionetto, a winery that’s been producing prosecco just north of Venice since 1887, is sharing eight adaptations of this classic elixir. And with such a broad selection of recipes, there’s bound to be a solution that fits your every fizzy-drink mood, whether you’re looking to start the day off with a bright brunch spritzer or to finish it strong with a bold aperitif.

When preparing any of these spritz iterations, Mionetto advises you to pour your prosecco into a large wine glass filled with ice before adding the recipe’s respective liquors and mixers, and finally finishing it off with each designated garnish. As they say in the old country, cin cin!
