Looney liberal approach

Left can’t change tune from crazy hatred of Trump

- Grace CURLEY

Democrats are starting to feel good about Nov. 3.

I can’t blame them. After all, Joe Biden is significantly ahead of President Trump in all of the major polls.

Plus, at Biden’s latest presser, the media made it painfully obvious that they will do whatever it takes to help him win the election.

The press’s lack of journalistic curiosity about Biden’s role in Gen. Michael Flynn’s unmasking was astounding.

Sadly, for anyone who has been paying attention, it was also predictable.

Just like in 2016, the Dems have the press, the polls and the panic on their side.

But even if I was on Team Biden, I would still have a strong feeling of doubt about the upcoming election.

I wouldn’t be doubtful because of the unreliable nature of polls.

Even Biden’s declining mental acuity wouldn’t concern me all that much.

I’d be worried for one reason: Wile E. Coyote. Hear me out.

The famous Looney Tunes coyote devoted all of his time to one mission. He was determined to catch and eat the Road Runner.

Wile E. was cunning and persistent and yet he managed to fail miserably time and again.

He constantly overcomplicated his mission. The harder he tried, the more ridiculous he looked. He was obsessed with hurting the Road Runner, but in the end he was always the one falling off a cliff.

Does this sound familiar? The Democrats are so fixated on hating President Trump, that they’ve lost their common sense. They don’t pick their battles. Everything is a battle. Just ask Boston University’s mascot Rhett the Terrier. Actually, you’ll have a hard time getting ahold of Rhett now. He has been banished to the Island of Misfit

Mascots along with The Emory & Henry Wasps.

And sports teams aren’t the only thing that can trigger the left. The list never stops growing — maple syrup bottles, Hawaiian shirts, the word “Grandfather,” Christopher Columbus statues, superheroes, Paw Patrol.

Most of this faux-outrage is classified as “virtue signaling.”

But this type of fanatical behavior signals insanity, not virtue.

To quote a column from USA Today, “All the Democrats had to do was not be crazy, and they couldn’t even do that.”

Glenn Harlan Reynolds wrote that in November.

And while a lot has changed since then, one thing remains the same.

The liberals, try as they may, cannot resist being crazy. They are intoxicated by it.

Unfortunately for them, that over-the-top mentality could drive people away from their party.

For example, every time Trump makes an unforced error on Twitter (he does this a lot), plenty of people roll their eyes and wonder if he’s right for the job.

But they can’t dwell on Trump’s mistake long before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her band of social justice warriors comes marching in, draped in kente cloth, ready to steal the show.

The Democrats make Trump seem like the more normal choice, if only by comparison.

A perfect example of the Democrats’ foolishness is how they handled the opportunity to pass police reform.

Plenty of polling has indicated that a significant percentage of Americans support police reform.

Of course, it would not be an overnight solution to racism. It would not instantly end the upheaval happening daily in our country. But what it could mean is progress.

Ironically, the political party that claims to identify as “progressive” is not interested in progress.

They’re only interested in sheer chaos.

So they make radical moves that are designed for shock value and Twitter likes.

The Democrats don’t try to reform the police. They try to defund the police.

It isn’t enough for them to encourage masks. They want to mandate masks.

And most dangerous of all, they can’t merely dislike President Trump. They have to destroy him — at all costs.

The Dems in DC are taking a risk. If the voters hate Trump as much as they do, then they might be in the clear. But if undecided voters don’t have that same contempt for Trump, then what do the Dems have to fall back on? I’m not sure getting “Gone with the Wind” removed from HBO Max is enough of an accomplishment to warrant putting Joe Biden in the Oval Office.
