Peabody man arrested in Chelsea pedestrian crash

Woman dies after being hit in Wareham

A 26-year-old Peabody man has been arrested on suspicion of operating under the influence after a hit-andrun crash in Chelsea early Saturday that killed a pedestrian, police said.

The Peabody driver, who police did not immediatel­y identify, faces charges of a second offense of operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury.

The crash occurred in the early morning hours on Sixth Street in Chelsea, according to Chelsea and state police. They have not yet identified the man who was killed.

A second pedestrian died after being struck by a car Friday night in Wareham, state police said.

In that incident, a 58-yearold Sandwich woman was struck on Route 25 by a 2013 Toyota Prius being driven by a 36-year-old Pocasset woman. Police found the Sandwich woman suffering serious injuries. She was taken to Toby Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The crash, including why the woman was in the road, remains under investigat­ion by state police. No charges had been filed as of early Saturday morning.
