Prez says Joe K III loss shows ‘radical’ Dem turn

- BY LISA KASHINSKY

President Trump is painting U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III’s primary loss as a sign of the “radical left” takeover of the Democratic Party and saying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s support did him no good against progressive-backed U.S. Sen. Edward Markey.

“See, even a Kennedy isn’t safe in the new Radical Left Democrat Party,” Trump tweeted near dawn Wednesday, mere hours after Kennedy conceded the race. “Biden has completely lost control. Pelosi strongly backed the loser!”

The 74-year-old incumbent was beating his 39-year-old challenger by 10 points Wednesday with nearly all the votes counted in the state’s marquee primary race. Kennedy called Markey to concede around 10 p.m. Tuesday, a campaign spokesman said. It’s the first time a Kennedy has lost an election for a Massachusetts seat.

The primary battle became a proxy war among Democrats when Pelosi endorsed Kennedy — a move that pitted her directly against U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and the scores of progressive politicians and groups that backed Markey. Ultimately, as Trump pointed out, Tuesday’s results left the House speaker on the losing side.

As progressives buoyed Markey to victory, Trump — who’s been attempting to label his own rival, Joe Biden, as a vessel of the Democratic Party’s left wing — seized on the opportunity to turn the demise of the Kennedy family dynasty into a glimpse of more trouble ahead.

“When a Kennedy loses a Democrat Primary in Massachusetts, by a lot, it just shows how far LEFT that party has gone. Joe Hiden’ will never be able to hold them back,” Trump tweeted in the afternoon, warning that the Second Amendment, jobs and the economy “would be totally obliterated” under a leftist administration.
