Meet the king of the mountain

- Marc GRASSO

I get asked this a lot: “Marc, what is your favorite vehicle?”

Depends on what category you are talking about … trucks? Sedans? SUVs? Compacts?

Yadda, yadda, yadda. But for this conversation, it’s truck talk. Specifically, the Ford F-250, which is not your everyday truck, or daily driver — yet it could be. The F-250 is a super pickup.

Our F-250 tester, a loaded Platinum Super Duty with the raved-about Tremor offroad package (for an additional $3,975) is unforgettable. This truck is awesome. In a recent test of America’s truck, the F-150, we loved it. The smaller Ranger? Enjoyed it. But for the money and if you truly need this truck for its raw ability, look no further. The F-250 is a super pickup with super capabilities across the board.

First, the interior, a spacious and roomy, oversized cabin filled with tons of accoutrements including the SYNC3 8-inch infotainment system. Seats are super comfortable and roomy; the back seats are not only spacious enough for passengers, but for cargo as well. A twin-panel moonroof, adaptive cruise control and wireless charging pad were great features we appreciated.

Second, the F-250 is a perfect work vehicle for the everyday blue-collar employee. It has great towing capacity (10,800 pounds) for the job site, or for that retiree who wants something to tow a boat or a camper. The Tremor package includes 18-inch wheels and skid plates.

The F-250’s exterior has the standard Ford look with a bold logo to prove it’s a Ford. Painted black wheels and rugged side steps also added some additional flavor to our Rapid Red exterior. We had tons of glowing comments over a weeklong test.

Under the hood is the real focus. Picture this: From camping, towing, farming, job-site usage, everyday driver, Ford has to provide an engine option that suits that application. Ford has three choices for its F-250. Our tester, the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel with a 10-speed automatic transmission, was unbelievable. Its turbo spooled up very fast creating endless torque and super power for the 6,462 pound truck.

The question of the week … if you were to buy a truck, would this be the one? If I was in construction, towing a camper, or was in the market for a fire-breathing diesel, this is exactly what I would be driving, because it can literally do everything.

Truck lovers, the moment you have been waiting for is here … have you signed on the dotted line yet?
