MINI Cooper GP has zip
2-seater is ready to race
The Limited Edition MINI Cooper is track-ready right out of the factory.
The John Cooper Works GP that MINI fans have been asking about for years is finally here. This track monster provides a 220kW/301horsepower 2.0 Liter fourcylinder engine aligned with 331 ft.-lb. of torque. As you can imagine, this torque lover’s dream has instant throttle response and literally spins the tires at every takeoff
This 2021 Edition JCW GP is an eye-catcher; its large racing-style rear wing exposes its super ability from afar. Our Racing Grey Metallic exterior and Carbon Black Suede-like interior fit the JCW perfectly as it screams “racing everything” when looking at it. Red exterior accents in the grille, wing and seat belts also are a great appearance extra for no additional money.
The interior removes the rear seats confirming its track readiness and confines the transmission option to just an eight-speed automatic transmission with metal “GP” engraved paddle shifters standard.
An 8.8-inch touch screen with navigation is present still in the center of the dash and adds some nice font and ambient lighting options. Thank BMW for that (as they are the manufacturer of MINI). Not over-bolstered Sport JCW seats are present and are super comfortable, a lot better than in the 2010 MINI JCW that once occupied space in Grasso’s Garage.
Large brake rotors show its stopping power matched with oversized JCW-engraved red calipers. Riding on Hankook tires and 18-inch GP spoke two-tone wheels, the Cooper is ready for the road and track as in our test we utilized GP mode which was throaty, road-gripping and super fun. Although we didn’t “track it” we found some pretty nice turns and curves to give it the ultimate road test.
For MINI Cooper lovers like my friend Chris, it’s all the craze to have a MINI that can turn heads, show off its attractive exterior and be track-ready when it drives off the lot. The Cooper JCW GP does just that, but don’t blink, because with only 3,000 being produced, you better get your name on the list, or you will be an onlooker instead of an owner. See you at the track and most likely getting beat by a Cooper GP.
