One-party control

-

“There is no path to progressive policies so long as Mitch McConnell is in charge of the Senate,” states Sen. Ed Markey in an email plea for money. This is his follow-up statement to his lament that Republicans are trying to buy the Georgia Senate race. So, in Markey’s mind, the only way to fight the influence of money in elections is to raise more money for elections. Wonderful. Markey’s soon-to-be chief of staff John Walsh offers up this gem — “We look forward to continuing our partnership to flip the Senate blue.” What a partnership.

What they’re really saying is that there should be no cooperation or discussion of the issues most important to the citizens of this country at the federal level. By taking the White House, controlling the lower chamber of Congress, and preventing a Republican majority in the Senate, Democrats will be able to ram through the most liberal policies in the history of this country. The size of government, through additional spending, regulation and the diminution of the freedoms we take for granted, will explode. All to placate the tiny minority of leftist legislators who long for a different United States than the one we have now. The fact that they’re begging for the funds to accomplish this is truly frightening.

I’m pretty sure the framers of the Constitution were counting on the common sense of Americans to understand that one-party control of government was a danger to democracy. It’s disturbing that Senator Markey and his chief of staff don’t understand this.
