Two held in Woburn shooting slay

- By Rick Sobey Erin Tiernan contributed to this report.

The two people charged in connection with a murder outside a Woburn sports bar over the weekend were held without bail on Monday, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The pair — Pauliasky Jean Francois, 34, of Plymouth, and Eric Mills, 29, of Hyde Park — were arraigned in Woburn District Court on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon.

They’re facing these charges in connection with the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Lloyd Borgella, of Roslindale, who was shot outside Jake n Joe’s Sports Grille Restaurant on Mishawum Road just after 9 p.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

During Monday’s arraignment at Woburn District Court, a not guilty plea was entered for Francois and Mills, and the judge ordered both defendants to be held without bail.

Police said Francois and Mills waited in the parking lot and shot Borgella as he left the restaurant after having dinner.

“There were at least 10 shots, illustrating once again the danger posed by handguns,” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said during a Sunday press conference outside the Woburn Police station.

She said the restaurant was busy at the time of the shooting, with several people loitering outside and in the parking lot as they waited for a table to open.

It was the first homicide in Woburn in at least 10 years.

“Woburn — in credit to the police department and community — is a relatively safe community,” Ryan said.

Following the shooting, Francois and Mills left the scene in a car, crashing about a quarter mile down the road and took off on foot, police said. Officers caught them at an intersection about half a mile away from the crash.

The next date in both cases is Jan. 12.
