Trump to supporters: 2024 run?

Solicits donations to ‘Secure the Senate’

President Trump hasn’t conceded the 2020 presidential election, but he appears to be increasingly looking toward running again in 2024.

The day after the Electoral College voted in Presidentelect Joe Biden’s favor, Trump’s campaign blasted out an email asking supporters: “Should President Trump run in 2024?”

“Let’s make something clear: the Radical Left STOLE this Election from President Trump,” the email reads, which also solicits donations to help “Secure the Senate” with two Georgia runoff elections looming.

“Rest assured, YOUR President will NEVER stop fighting for YOU and YOUR family. He will do whatever it takes to ensure America is put FIRST,” the email continues.

Trump has been increasingly floating the idea of a 2024 bid even as he continues to contend the results of the November election.

His attempts have proved largely fruitless in court, and Biden surpassed the 270 votes he needed to clinch the presidency when the 538 members of the Electoral College met on Monday.

And Trump is now at odds with his longtime ally, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who on Tuesday congratulated Biden on his victory and pleaded with his colleagues not to dispute the Electoral College’s result when Congress meets on Jan. 6 to formalize Biden’s victory. U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., is reportedly planning a challenge, though any dispute would need to be raised by at least one member of the House and Senate.

“Too soon to give up,” Trump tweeted. “Republican Party must finally learn to fight.”

Lou Murray, a former national adviser to Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 and a national surrogate in 2020, said the “campaign’s mantra of ‘count every legal vote’ is still critical until Jan. 6.”

“A fundraising email that asks the question ‘Should President Trump run in 2024?’ is better evidence that Donald Trump controls the Republican Party than it is evidence of Donald Trump giving up on 2020,” Murray said.
