Mild week of weather expected
Sunday’s snow won’t be repeated
Boston area meteorologists are predicting mostly dry conditions with seasonable temperatures for the week ahead, after Sunday’s predicted brushing of snow across the region.
Massachusetts should be cloudy and dreary through Wednesday. Then, the sun could poke through to brighten up the region on Thursday and Friday, according to forecasters.
There’s a chance for some snow flurries in the first half of the week, but it won’t accumulate.
“It should be cloudy with seasonal temperatures in the 30s through midweek, and then brighter Thursday and Friday,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Kristie Smith, based in the Norton office.
“Our best shot for accumulation is tonight (Sunday evening into today),” she added.
Snow was expected to start dropping over western Massachusetts by late Sunday afternoon and reach the I-95 corridor by early evening, then continuing into early today. Accumulations of 2 to 3 inches were expected northwest of I-95, with mainly rain to the southeast.
This weather system is then expected to remain about 300 miles to the east through midweek, with a possible round or two of snow showers rotating in off the ocean, particularly in eastern Massachusetts. Those potential bands of snow are not expected to accumulate, Smith said.
High pressure then builds in from the west, bringing sunshine with near to slightly above normal temperatures Thursday into Friday.
Forecasters are keeping their eyes on a weekend system that is expected to miss the region.
“We will need to watch low pressure to our south Fri night and Saturday,” said the National Weather Service on its website. “Much of the guidance keeps this system south of us resulting in a miss/glancing blow. However, given the time range that may not mean much and there are a few GEFS/EPS ensemble members that are further north. Not much more to say at this time range other than if the system gets far enough north will have another rain/snow potential.”
