A New Hampshire man has been arrested on charges of killing his mother and charging at Wakefield Police with a knife, authorities said.

Timothy Martin, 23, of Manchester, is charged with murder in connection with the apparent homicide of his mother, Pamela Wood, 61, of Wakefield, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wakefield Chief of Police Steven Skory said in a joint statement Thursday.

Martin also is charged with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon for an alleged assault on three Wakefield Police officers, Ryan and Skory said.

An arraignment will be scheduled at a later date.

Wakefield Police went to an Otis Street home shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday to perform a well-being check on Pamela Wood.

Police and firefighters reportedly found her dead from severe trauma in the home’s basement, authorities said.

There, officers also encountered Martin, who allegedly charged at the officers with a knife held above his head, authorities said.

Two police officers shot him and then performed life-saving efforts at the scene before Martin was transported to Lahey Hospital, authorities said.

He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Detectives learned that Martin allegedly killed his mother in the residence, authorities said. They obtained a search warrant on the victim’s home, where they located two knives.

Five Wakefield Police officers received treatment at area hospitals as a precautionary measure, and they have been released.

The two officers who fired their service weapons have been placed on administrative leave. The case remains under investigation.
