MFA reopens; Museum of Science up next

- by MARIE SZANISZLO

The Museum of Fine Arts has reopened with limited capacity due the coronavirus pandemic, and the Museum of Science will open next week.

The museum will operate at the limited 25% capacity mandated by the state, in addition to following previously introduced safety policies and procedures, including advance timedentry tickets and a mask requirement for all visitors.

“Museums are places of shared experience, and we’re pleased to once again open our doors so that Bostonians can connect with art and with each other,” said Matthew Teitelbaum, the museum’s Ann and Graham Gund director.

“We … remain committed to the highest standards of safety we can offer our visitors.”

The Museum of Science will reopen to the public on Monday in accordance with guidelines of the state’s reopening plan. General admission tickets will go on sale today.

“Our city’s cultural institutions are a crucial resource for our community to discover, dream and engage in the questions that impact us most,” said Museum of Science President Tim Ritchie.

That museum will continue its safety protocols, including social distancing and face mask requirements, as covered in its code of conduct. Behind the scenes, it has enhanced the operations of its heating, ventilation and airconditioning systems to maximize the air quality in its exhibit halls, with a focus on higher efficiency filtration and enhanced monitoring of the air flow and air change rates to ensure proper ventilation.

Timed tickets for exhibit halls admission and theaters will be required for all visitors in advance and can be reserved or purchased at mos.org/tickets or over the phone at 617-723-2500. Visit mos.org/visitor-faq for full details on visit planning and booking.
