BPD mourns detective’s death
An active-duty Boston Police detective has died after serving “admirably” in the department for 27 years, BPD has announced.
Detective Charisse Brittle-Powell, 48, of South Easton, died on Sunday at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
“It is with deep regret that the Boston Police Department announces the passing of activeduty Boston Police Detective Charisse Brittle-Powell,” BPD said in a statement. “Detective Brittle-Powell was a 27-year veteran of the BPD who served admirably in a number of assignments during her career.
“Charisse will be greatly missed by her friends and colleagues here at the Boston Police Department as we send our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones, especially her husband, Boston Police Sergeant Detective Courtney Powell, during this tremendously sad and difficult time,” BPD added.
The Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society said in a statement that Brittle-Powell “served with distinction in a number of assignments during her career and her impact will not be soon forgotten.” Daniel Linskey, former Superintendent-in-Chief of BPD, mourned the loss on Twitter.
“Oh my God Courtney so sorry for your loss,” Linskey tweeted. “I remember when Charisse reported to the academy for her first day I watched her grow in her career from a recruit to a great detective who had great compassion for victims. Praying for the Powell family.”
Brittle-Powell, a mother of two, graduated from Boston High School in 1990. She then attended Boston University, where she got her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She later obtained her master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England University.
The cause of death was not provided.
The family will receive visitors at Joseph Russo Funeral Home in Roslindale from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A private funeral service will be held at Greater Love Tabernacle Church in Boston.
