Michigan St. upsets Michigan

Tyson Walker scored 19 points and Chris Doherty grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and Northeaste­rn beat William & Mary 63-47 in the quarterfin­als of the Colonial Athletic Associatio­n tournament on Sunday.

The Huskies (10-8) entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and on Monday will play the winner of Sunday night’s game between third-seeded Charleston and No. 6 Drexel.

The seventh-seeded Tribe (7-10) led 28-25 at halftime. Their upset bid came to a screeching end when the Huskies took control going on a 19-4 run in the first seven minutes after the break.

Coleman Stucke and Jahmyl Telfort each scored 13 for Northeaste­rn.

Michigan St. 70, No. 2 Michigan 64 — Rocket Watts scored 21 points and Aaron Henry had 18 to give Michigan Statea shot to seal coach Tom Izzo’s 23rd consecutiv­e NCAA Tournament bid. The Spartans (15-11, 9-11 Big Ten) have won five of their last seven games. The Wolverines (19-3, 14-3) closed the regular season getting routed at home by the Fighting Illini, beating Michigan State handily to seal the Big Ten title and losing the rematch three days later.

No. 3 Baylor 88, No. 18 Texas Tech 73 — MaCio Teague scored 35 points while matching a school record with 10 made 3-pointers and Baylor finished undefeated at home for the first time in 73 years. The Big 12 champion Bears (21-1, 13-1 Big 12) never trailed. Kyler Edwards had 18 points for Texas Tech (17-9, 9-8).

No. 5 Iowa 77, No. 25 Wisconsin 73 —

Luka Garza scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season. Garza leads the Big Ten in scoring and is third in the nation. Iowa (20-7, 14-6) has won seven of eight and will be the third seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Micah Potter shot 9 for 12 and scored 23 points for Wisconsin (16-11, 10-10).

No. 9 Houston 67, Memphis 64 — Houston’s Tramon Mark hit a long 3-pointer as time expired.

After Memphis had tied it with 1.7 seconds left, Marcus Sasser threw the ball to midcourt where Mark picked it up. He dribbled through two Memphis defenders and launched a 35-footer off the backboard and in. Houston mobbed Mark in a hectic scene under the basket following the Cougars’ (21-3, 14-3 American) fourth straight win.

Landers Nolley II scored 14 points, Lester Quinones and DeAndre Williams each added 11 points for Memphis (15-7, 11-4).

No. 20 Loyola Chicago 75, Drake 65 — Cameron Krutwig and Braden Norris scored 20 points apiece in the Missouri Valley Conference championsh­ip game for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

The Ramblers (24-4, 16-2) will be making their seventh NCAAs appearance and first since the 2018 team reached the Final Four as a No. 11 seed.

Tremell Murphy and D.J. Wilkins scored 20 points each for Drake (25-4, 15-3), a bubble team.

Winthrop 80, Campbell 53 — D.J. Burns scored 22 points and Winthrop (23-1) got its second straight Big South tournament championsh­ip and automatic NCAA Tournament bid. They will be making their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance.

Third-seeded Campbell (17-10) came in on a ninegame win streak and looking for its first NCAA appearance in 29 years.

Women No. 1 UConn 84, Villanova 39 —

Christyn Williams scored 26 points in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament. Paige Bueckers had 18 points and eight assists for Connecticu­t (23-1). The Huskies will play for their 19th Big East title in their first year back in the league after spending seven seasons dominating the American Athletic Conference.

Sarah Mortensen had 15 points to lead Villanova (15-6).

No. 3 N.C. St. 58, No. 5 Louisville 56 — Raina Perez hit a jumper from near the left elbow with 2.1 seconds left in the championsh­ip game of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

The second-seeded Wolfpack (20-2) beat the topseeded Cardinals (23-3).
