Nearly 2.3M doses given so far
Nearly 60,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered in Massachusetts during its most recent day of vax data, a day after state health officials reported a single-day record of more than 85,000 shots.
The 59,450 vax shots reported on the one-year anniversary of the virus state of emergency in Massachusetts bring the total amount of shots administered to 2,288,933, according to the state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Wednesday.
Of the almost 2.3 million doses, 1,504,144 people have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 752,083 people have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 32,706 people have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Tuesday’s single-day record report was 85,690 new vax doses. Before then, the previous daily vaccinations were 25,931 doses; 48,234 doses; 63,828 doses; 74,520 doses; and 62,433 doses.
Overall, 784,789 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated.
Nearly 2.7 million doses have been shipped to Massachusetts after the state reported 47,140 doses were shipped in the last day to state providers, and 40,300 doses were shipped to pharmacies and directly by the federal government. More than 85% of doses shipped to the state have been administered.
Meanwhile, the state on Wednesday reported 1,413 new virus cases, continuing the recent plateau in the 1,000 to 1,500 range. The seven-day average of confirmed infections is now 1,002 cases, a drop from 6,241 cases at the start of the year.
Wednesday’s 53 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 16,509. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now 30, down from 77 daily deaths in late January. That figure peaked at 175 daily deaths in late April.
Statewide hospitalizations have declined since the start of the state’s vaccine rollout. Hospitalizations on Wednesday went down by 15 patients, bringing the total to 689 patients.
