Man arrested after striking cruiser with car

- By Rick Sobey

A 24-year-old Dorchester man was arrested after he tried to evade Boston Police officers, striking one of their cruisers and nearly running over several BPD officers, according to police.

Eugene Parrish was eventually placed under arrest, and will appear in Dorchester District Court on multiple charges — including four counts of assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, negligent operation and malicious destruction of property.

Boston Police officers on Friday at about 9:47 p.m. stopped a vehicle in the area of 329 Washington St. in

Dorchester.

As they were speaking with Parrish, who police say did not have a valid license, officers saw that the frontseat passenger — a 16-yearold boy from Dorchester — apparently had a gun underneath his sweatshirt.

“When additional units arrived on scene, officers attempted to remove the operator, at which time he put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated towards the officers who were standing behind the suspect vehicle and a cruiser which was stationary with the emergency lights engaged,” police said in a statement. “The suspect struck the cruiser, causing front end damage, then put his vehicle in drive, accelerating onto the sidewalk at a high rate of speed in an attempt to flee the traffic stop.”

Parrish then hit another car before coming to a stop after striking a street sign pole on Waterlow Street, police said.

As officers approached, they saw that the passenger was no longer inside the vehicle. When they opened the driver’s side door to remove Parrish, he allegedly struck the officers several times. The officers were eventually able to place him under arrest.

Officers later found the 16year-old boy in the area of 17 School St. and detained him. They retraced his path, and did not find any weapons.

The boy was released to a guardian after questioning. The investigation remains ongoing.
