Trump recommends vax
And says he’s still mulling a 2024 run
Former President Donald Trump is urging his followers to get vaccinated while also hinting he’s mulling a 2024 run — especially if Royal-rebuking Meghan Markle jumps in the race.
The former president didn’t hesitate when asked on Fox News Tuesday night if he would recommend everyone line up for a shot to guard against the coronavirus.
“I would recommend it. I would recommend it to a lot of people who don’t want to get it and a lot of those people voted for me, frankly,” Trump said. “It’s a great vaccine, it’s a safe vaccine and it’s something that works.”
He didn’t specify which vaccine — Moderna’s and Pfizer’s mRNA technology or the Johnson & Johnson traditional dose — but he did say his Warp Speed program that cleared the way for rapid production of the vaccines will ultimately “save” the country and “frankly, save the world.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci this weekend called on Trump to use his popularity to persuade more Republicans to get vaccinated. The nation is averaging 2.5 million daily shots with more supply in the pipeline.
“It seems absolutely inevitable that the vast majority of people who are his close followers would listen to him,” Fauci told “Fox News Sunday.”
“Fox News Primetime” host Maria Bartiromo pulled that support for vaccinations out of Trump during a fast-paced telephone interview where he hit President Biden over the crisis at the southern border and rising gas prices he said will jump by “one dollar, two dollars, three dollars.”
Trump also said that he took a big “risk” on vaccines but it has paid off. As for anti-vaxxers, Trump added “we have our freedoms and we have to live by that.”
Biden said on ABC News Tuesday night that his message to migrants at the border is “Don’t come over.” When pressed, he added: “Yes, I can say quite clearly: Don’t come over. Don’t leave your town or city or community.” Trump said his approach of using Mexico to guard their borders before migrants reached the U.S. was working.
“We also made a tremendous dent in human trafficking … and drugs,” he said.
He accused the Biden administration of allowing “hundreds of thousands” of immigrants to flood into Texas and other border crossings.
As for his possible Oval Office reboot, Trump said he’d “take a look and see.” He cited polls that show he’s still the top choice among Republicans, but it’s still too early to tell. He is aiming to “take back the House” first in the mid-terms.
But if Markle runs, as some are speculating off her recent Oprah Winfrey interview calling out the Royal family, he’s more likely to jump in, he added.
“I hope that happens … I’d have an even stronger feeling toward running,” he said.
He quickly added he’s a fan of the queen and he didn’t like Markle’s criticisms — which included alleged racist remarks about her child’s skin color.
