A sunny, warm first week of spring
Three days in the 60s expected
The pleasant temps and sunshine that Massachusetts residents enjoyed over the weekend are expected to stick around for the first full week of spring.
After temperatures in the 60s on Sunday, the forecast for the upcoming week shows temps in the 60s and 50s — with the warmest day looking like Thursday.
“We’re having a nice little warm up here,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Simpson, based in NWS Boston’s Norton office. “We should be well above normal for another week at least.”
The normal high temp for this time of March is 46 degrees, but the region should see temps 10 to 20 degrees above that average for at least the next week during a mainly dry and tranquil weather pattern.
Today’s afternoon highs should reach between 60 and 65 degrees, except for upper 40s and 50s along the Cape and Islands. The day will feature sunny skies and light winds.
Highs on Tuesday should also reach 60 to 65 degrees, and then upper 50s to lower 60s on Wednesday. But it should be much cooler at the immediate coast with upper 40s to mid 50s. The coast is staying cool because of daily sea breezes.
Then Thursday is looking like the warmest day of the week, with temps hitting the upper 60s. “With full sun, we’d be expecting highs in the 70s … but it will be mostly cloudy in the morning with some breaks mid to late afternoon,” the National Weather Service forecast reads for Thursday. “Have still forecast highs reaching the upper 60s away from the coast.”
A cold front will likely bring showers Friday, along with gusty winds.
“We should be on the cloudy side with showers likely,” the National Weather Service forecast reads. “Winds may gust to 25-35 mph in eastern MA and RI, highest along the coast. If there is more sunshine, then winds could gust much higher.”
These temps in the 60s come only days after Massachusetts faced an arctic chill during the last week of winter.
