32,582 more vax shots given
More than 32,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were given during the most recent day of vaccine data, Massachusetts health officials reported on Monday as the state’s vax eligibility pool grew to those 60-plus and certain essential workers.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Monday showed almost 3 million total doses have been administered — 1,866,948 people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1,012,342 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 73,057 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That’s a daily increase of 32,582 shots, which is a drop from prior days. The previous daily vaccinations were 56,305 doses; 58,525 doses; 70,475 doses; 62,532 doses; and 61,449 doses.
Overall, 1,085,399 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated.
More than 3.2 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 91% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
Monday’s count of 1,103 new virus cases comes amid a recent rise in cases and as the positivite-test rate has ticked up. Recent single-day tallies that exceeded 1,800 cases were the highest counts in three weeks.
The seven-day average of confirmed cases is now 1,354 cases, still significantly down from 6,241 cases in the first week of January.
The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 27,341 cases — up from 25,397 last week but a drop from 98,750 cases at the start of the year.
Monday’s 27 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 16,894. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now 27, down from 77 daily deaths in late January. That figure peaked at 175 daily deaths in late April.
Statewide hospitalizations have been dropping but rose on Monday. Hospitalizations went up by 23, bringing the total to 603 patients.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 601 patients now.
Of the state’s 16,894 total deaths from the virus, 8,856 deaths have been in longterm care facilities.
