Biden’s spectacle

- — Sal Giarratani, East Boston

Well, it took 64 days before the Biden White House held its first press conference. All you had to do was watch and listen to Biden at the podium with his large binder of notes before him to know he was prepped for the questions before they were even asked (“No pressing at this conference,” Boston Herald, March 26).

The hourlong spectacle was just that, a spectacle. Over the first 20 minutes, Biden didn’t sound half-bad but the longer he went the more he rambled endlessly to the point I needed a roadmap to follow him. Columnist Howie Carr’s commentary was right-on.

By the second half of his press conference, he was quite sad to watch as he stumbled along all by himself. Too bad the media kept asking him softball questions for which he already had the answers to return.

I didn’t expect much more than I got from him but I did expect the media to do its job so much better. No wonder folks call it the Fake News Media. Reporter after reporter asked questions like they weren’t White House pool reporters but employees of the White House Communications Office. Now we know why his campaign handlers kept him locked up in his bunker during the campaign.

When Biden wasn’t totally confused, he lied as when he said that (former President Donald) Trump actually was somehow responsible for the deaths of little children coming to the borders. Nonsense!

Biden also misspoke when he said that this year’s surge happens every January, February and March. Not true — and he must know that. As I read liberal newspapers like the Washington Post and Boston Globe, one would think Biden was just as good as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton or Jack Kennedy when in a give-andtake with media representatives. He wasn’t.

I would say Biden showed how tiring it becomes for him talking more than 15 or 20 minutes. Overall, I give Biden a “D” grade for his performance behind that podium but I give the fake reporters asking fake questions a grade of “F.”

One can be assured the next presidential press conference might not take place until after Biden gives us the OK to hold those July 4 barbecues in our backyards this summer.
