State: 40G more vax doses make it into arms
More than 40,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were given during the most recent day of data, according to Massachusetts health officials who also reported 15 new virus deaths, 1,464 new cases and an increase in hospitalizations on Monday.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Monday showed more than 3.4 million total doses have been administered — 2,137,827 people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1,187,938 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 83,870 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That’s a daily increase of 40,114 shots.
Overall, 1,271,808 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated.
Almost 3.8 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 90% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
Monday’s tally of 1,464 new virus cases comes amid a spike in infections. Three days last week surpassed 2,000 cases. Fewer virus tests were reported on Monday.
The seven-day average of confirmed cases is now 1,637 cases, a jump from 1,322 cases a few weeks ago.
The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 31,428 cases — up from 25,397 last week, but a drop from 98,750 cases at the start of the year.
Monday’s 15 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,130. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now 27, down from 77 daily deaths in late January. That figure peaked at 175 daily deaths in late April.
Statewide hospitalizations have been dropping during the vaccine rollout but increased last week. Hospitalizations on Monday went up by 18 patients, bringing the total to 675 patients.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 635 patients now.
Of the state’s 17,130 total deaths from the virus, 8,926 deaths have been in longterm care facilities.
