Scores four TDs in the first half

BOURNE — In a year of surprises, Dighton-Rehoboth wasn’t interested in chicanery anymore.

The Falcons (2-0) traveled down to Bourne and had no trouble sinking the Canalmen in a 41-0 shutout in a nonleague contest.

Senior halfback Jaren Ramos scored four touchdowns in the first half and finished with 78 yards of total offense in the game for the Falcons in the rout.

After exchanging punts to start the game, Ramos found the end zone on the Falcons next four series.

Ramos’ first touchdown was a cut inside on a halfback dive and steamrolled a would-be tackler in the secondary to fall across the goal line for a 12-yard TD.

Ramos followed that up with a 5-yard touchdown scamper to cap off a 10play drive to give D-R a 14-0 lead.

The Falcons got the ball back at their 44-yard line with 8:15 remaining in the first half following a turnover on downs, and D-R only needed four plays to get back on the scoreboard. A 20-yard run by Brady Walsh set up the perfect play-action opportunity for quarterback John Marcille. Marcille found Ramos streaking across the secondary on a quick inside post route for a 15-yard TD.

Ramos tacked on a 16yard TD run for his fourth TD of the game as Dighton-Rehoboth put on an offensive clinic in the opening half, grabbing 14 first downs on its way to a 28-0 lead.

“I give a lot of credit to the offensive line. We still have a lot of things we have to clean up, especially with the next three games ahead of us,” said Falcons head coach Dave Moura. “But it was good to see the offense moving the football, so we are glad things work out and we are able to get out of here with a victory.”

Bourne tried an on-side kick to start the second half and it almost worked but almost wasn’t good enough and it sparked a second wind for the Falcons. Ramos went on a jet sweep for 30 yards down to the 20-yard line and set up fellow senior Aidan O’Connor for the 6-yard touchdown in the first 1:05 of the third quarter. Aidan Fyfe scored from 2 yards out to finish out the scoring midway through the fourth quarter.

“It’s always a tough place to play when we come down to Bourne as we were nervous with their offense that we weren’t going to be able to get off the field,” Moura said. “Their offense can be death by a thousand paper cuts — three yards, three yards, three yards — but our defense really stepped up and played great today.”
