79,086 shots given out; 1,831 new cases

Nearly 80,000 coronaviru­s vaccine doses were given in Massachuse­tts during the most recent day of vaccine data, as the state on Sunday also reported eight new virus deaths and 1,831 new cases.

More than 4.5 million total doses have been administer­ed since the start of the state’s rollout, and 1,765,666 people are fully vaccinated, according to the daily vaccine report Sunday.

Overall, the 4,501,629 total doses administer­ed breaks down to 2,735,963 people who have received one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1,594,878 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 170,788 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Those figures represent a daily increase of 79,086 doses. The previous daily vaccinatio­ns were 105,458 shots, 112,933 shots and 92,825 shots.

More than 5.2 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 86% of total doses shipped to the state have been reported as administer­ed.

Meanwhile, state health officials on Sunday reported eight new virus deaths and 1,831 new cases.

The number of estimated active cases across the state is now 36,466 — up from 25,397 a few weeks ago. Cases have been spiking in recent weeks as the more contagious virus variants spread across the state.

Sunday’s eight new virus deaths brings the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,387. The seven-day average of confirmed deaths has dropped from 77 daily deaths at the end of January to nine daily deaths now.

Statewide hospitaliz­ations have been dropping during the state’s vaccine rollout but have ticked up recently amid spiking cases. Hospitaliz­ations on Sunday rose by 13 patients, bringing the total to 698 patients.

There are 172 patients in the intensive care unit, and 100 patients are currently intubated.

Of the state’s total recorded death toll of 17,387, there have been 9,014 deaths in long-term care facilities.
