Vaccine shots being delivered
More than 5M have been given in state
Nearly 70,000 more coronavirus vaccine doses were administered in Massachusetts during the most recent day of vaccine data, coming ahead today’s eligibility change opening up the shot to everyone 16 and older.
State health officials on Sunday also reported seven more virus deaths and 1,265 new cases.
More than 5 million total vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the state’s rollout, and 2,037,794 people are fully vaccinated, according to the daily vaccine report on Sunday.
Overall, the 5,079,602 total doses administered breaks down to 3,041,808 people who have received one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1,835,912 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 201,882 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Those figures represent a daily increase of 69,990 doses. The previous daily vaccinations were 88,032 shots, 86,934 shots, and 95,048 shots.
More than 5.9 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State after a recent shipment of 86,580 doses, and 86% of total doses shipped to the state have been reported as administered.
Starting today, everyone 16-plus in Massachusetts will be eligible to get a vaccine.
It will take several weeks for everyone who wants an appointment to get one as the demand will be higher than the available supply of doses.
After the state’s 1,265 new virus cases on Sunday, the number of estimated active cases across the state is now 34,553 — up from 25,397 a few weeks ago. Cases have been rising in recent weeks as the more contagious virus variants spread across the state.
Sunday’s seven new virus deaths brings the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,462. The seven-day average of confirmed deaths has dropped from 77 daily deaths at the end of January to eight daily deaths now.
Statewide hospitalizations have been dropping during the state’s vaccine rollout but have fluctuated recently.
Hospitalizations on Sunday went up by eight patients, bringing the total to 701 patients.
