6th Ms-13 IN lynn slay Gets 23 years
The last MS-13 gang member charged and convicted in a RICO conspiracy and for being one of the gang members who took turns brutally stabbing a teenage boy to death in a park in Lynn has been sentenced.
U.S. Senior District Court Judge Mark L. Wolf sentenced Marlos “Silencio” Reyes, 26, a Salvadoran national who entered the U.S. illegally around March 2014, according to court records, to 23 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Henderson Rivas was just 17 years old when he met up with the group of MS-13 “homeboys” — a word that’s practically equivalent to the Mafia’s “made man” title bestowed to full members of MS-13 — one summer day in 2018 at Henry Avenue Playground in Lynn.
There they surrounded him, knocked him down and stabbed him to death, with court documents detailing how some had argued before the murder about who would have the honor of stabbing him first.
In all, he was stabbed at least 32 times and left in a wooded area before a park visitor stumbled upon the body.
Reyes pleaded guilty to conspiracy to conduct enterprise affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity, known as RICO conspiracy, in July 2020.
The Lynn murder was a brutal example of the methods the gang used to enforce their criminal activities.
Reyes is the sixth and final MS-13 gang member to be sentenced in the case.
All of them will spend huge swathes of their lives — and, in one case, the rest of his life — behind prison bars.
The most recently sentenced was Eliseo “Peligroso” Vaquerano Canas, 22, a Salvadorian national, who prosecutors said “had the most troubling role out of all” in the murder, largely because he had led the victim to see him as a friend. Judge Wolf sentenced him March 17 to 43 years in prison.
Before that was Djavier “Haze” Duggins, 32, the top leader of the MS-13 clique who was not present for the murder. Wolf sentenced him on Feb. 18 to 15 years in prison.
Just two days earlier, “Perverso” — the Herald featured him on its cover as the “Butcher of Eastie” — got the harshest sentence. Henri Salvador Gutierrez, 23, a Salvadorian national, didn’t just brag about his leading role in the Lynn murder but also butchered Luis Fernando Orellana Ruano, 18, a Guatemalan national, at Memorial Park in East Boston on Christmas Eve 2016. Wolf sentenced him to life in prison.
It was Perverso’s own loose lips around a wired gang member cooperating with the police that got them all caught, according to an affidavit.
Jonathan “Desalmado” Tercero Yanes, 24, a Salvadorian national living in Massachusetts, was sentenced Feb. 15 to 33 years in prison. Erick “Mayimbu” Lopez Flores, 33, of Lynn, the clique’s “second word” or second in command, got sentenced to 40 years the day before.
