Revolution seek 1st road win in Miami

- By RICH THOMPSON

The New England Revolution will look to snap a three-game MLS losing streak at sea level on a warm-weather pitch.

After playing their early season games in swirling snow, frigid temperature and high elevations, the Revolution (1-3-1) will try to stem their slide against Inter Miami CF on Saturday afternoon (3) at DRV PNK Stadium.

The Revolution have actually dropped four straight with their 3-0 loss to Pumas UNAM in a CONCACAF Champions League leg 2 match in the high altitude of Mexico City on March 16. The Revolution will be after their first road win against an Inter Miami squad that has lost four straight league games.

“Well, it’s like any game in the league,” said Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena. “It doesn’t matter whether they are on a losing streak of a winning streak, all games in this league are competitive.

“I think the game Saturday will be a little unique for us so far this year with the temperature around 80 degrees. We’ve been playing in snow and elevation and all that, so this is a new challenge as well. But it is all part of playing in MLS. We’ll have the challenge of not only the change in climate, but also a team that needs three points as well. So, it should be a good game.”

The Revolution clinched the 2021 Supporter’s Shield with an MLS single-season record 73 points and their 22-5-7 mark tied the league record for the most wins in the post-shootout era. The Revs were 3-1-1 over their first five games last season.

The Revolution are 1-2 in three home games this season and are coming off a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls last Saturday at Gillette Stadium. The Revolution surrendered an own goal in the 90th minute in a contentious foul-filled contest.

“We’ll be fine,” said Arena. “I think we gave away two games this season, the Real Salt Lake game and the Red Bulls game, games where at the very least we walk off the field with a point.

“I think there’s good lessons to be learned and obviously, we may have been a little unlucky in the last game. But it is all part of a long season. These seasons go every which way, very rarely do you have identical seasons back-to-back.”

“We are facing adversity at the start of the season but that’s not the worse thing. I would rather it happen now than later.”
