1 dead in Roslindale shooting
One person died in a shooting at a Roslindale gas station that left another man injured Friday night.
When Boston Police responded to the scene at about 9:47 p.m., they found two people shot at the Alfa gas station, 4139 Washington St., in Roslindale, Boston Police Deputy Superintendent James Miller told reporters at the scene. One of the people was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was transported to a local hospital.
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: We’ve got too many guns on our streets right now,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden told reporters at the scene after having arrived from the scene of another shooting in Revere that had happened in the same hour. “This is a very tragic incident. One’s no longer with us.”
Miller said that the shooting is under active investigation and “does not appear to be a random act of violence.” He added that anyone with information on the shooting should call the department’s homicide unit at 617-343-4470. The shooting in a place as public and ordinary as a gas station has “got to be scary” for residents, Hayden said.
Hayden later emailed a statement contextualizing the shooting with recent violence and arrests in Boston.
“So far this year police have pulled more than 160 illegal guns off of Boston’s streets, including five loaded handguns from juveniles just this week,” he wrote.
“Now we again see the destruction guns bring, with one person dead, another wounded and bullets flying in an open-air business setting with people going about their daily routines. I urge anyone with knowledge of those involved to assist the investigation. This is a societal problem that requires a societal response,” he continued.
