‘Happiness and world peace’ – ARod unmoved by Bennifer’s engagement

- By Madeleine Marr

MIAMI — Alex Rodriguez isn’t having the greatest month.

Last week, the former New York Yankees slugger was mercilessly trolled for saying in a recent interview that he was from the “hood,” meaning Kendall.

And if anyone knows strip mall paradise Kendall, um, that’s not the way locals refer to it.

Anyhoo, soon after that debacle, news broke that ARod’s famous ex, Jennifer Lopez, was engaged to Ben Affleck, again.

The Lopez-Rodriguez couple formerly known as JRod broke up just a year ago, and almost immediately the “Waiting for Tonight” singer was back with her famous Oscar-winning ex.

To his credit, Rodriguez has not commented publicly on the matter, focusing on his career and kids.

On Sunday, though, Michael Kay of ESPN New York couldn’t let an opportunity go to waste, taking a dig at Rodriguez’s single status without naming names.

“It’s a great time in sports!”

Kay said. “We have a new Masters champion, the NBA playoffs are about to start, baseball in full swing. People are getting engaged! It’s a happy time in the world.”

Rodriguez smiled knowingly, but didn’t take the bait, and we commend him for that (no, really).

“Happiness and world peace is what we’re looking for,” he chuckled.

“I think of Gandhi and you,” Kay volleyed back.

In October, the Fox Sports commentator’s poker face was just as strong while Red Sox fans chanted “JLo! JLo!” while he was covering the American League Championship Series at Fenway Park in Boston.

A particularly rowdy baseball fan yelled, “What’s your favorite Ben Affleck movie?!”

Lopez and Rodriguez initially split back in March 2021, reconciled briefly, then called the whole thing off the following month. Lopez was soon seen back in the arms of her former “Gigli” co-star.

Bennifer 2.0 got engaged last weekend, with Lopez showing off her green diamond engagement ring. (The last one was pink.)
